Can I get some help improving lap times? I seem to be slow in this game. I race with buddies and they all seem to drive away from me on every track. We do not use custom setups so it has to do with driving style I assume. Now I want to say I am not new to racing sims. I can hold my own in iracing with other racers buddies won't use iracing cause it's too hard.

What's the secret to this game? I use a wheel and pedals and have played with settings but that didn't help. What am I doing wrong??? I never considered this. I also think they get into the gas alot sooner than me since I'm used to having to ease into the throttle from placing iracing where they just mash the gas and go. I'm afraid playing heat will mess me up for iracing. Hahaha that's my excuse I'm going to use anyway. I have been trying to play NASCAR Heat 4, but it's not fun for me because every time I start a race, or qualifying session, or even a practice session, the other cars all pass me with ease, especially on the straights.

Which gets really annoying in stage racing because if during Stage 1 if you've fought your way to the front, when Stage 2 starts you are going to have to contend with half the field wanting to pass you and one or more of the AI drivers running you into the wall.

There are some things you can do to mitigate this: a good car setup and b turn off driving aids. Tire pressure, camber, gear ratios, car height - almost everything is identical. The only differences are a few spring settings. Pick one as a starting point, race some practice laps, check your front tire temperatures rear doesn't really matter. You will find that your tire temps are very far from being even - meaning that for each of your front tires the inner, middle, and outer temps are way out of wack.

This is because the tire camber for those respective tires on the recommended setups are completely wrong. Once you have your tire cambers correct, you may need to adjust your air pressure so that your middle tire temperatures are inline with the outer and inner tire temps.

Each track feels different and the better paved tracks are an easier experience. Force feedback, even at default, is tremendously responsive. This game can be an arm workout when using a wheel. Different types of racing exists and depending on the track, cars will be bunched up or create space over time. Grinding twenty laps to run down the car in front of you is extremely rewarding.

Finding the best line and drafting as you work to gain a spot is fantastic. Tire strategy can also make or break a race and this goes in line with just how well the AI is in the game. If you pit later or take four tires, you have the potential of lasting longer and running faster lap times. In the Career Mode, if you anger opposing drivers, they will gun for you and take you out. If a car is faster and bumps you in the back, that is simply an aspect of stock car racing as it provides a push.

If you spin out on the track, the AI will actively try to avoid the wreck. It also takes into account pit strategy and you will see AI cars racing each other and going for passes.

These are all things that could be patched. Monster Games has rectified that this year as the game provides different graphical options if you have a PS4 Pro or Xbox One. Players can choose quality or performance in the settings and with quality on, the game truly pops. There are still jaggies in the distance, but the game renders the distance so much better this year.

The colors and reflections from the cars really pop out and there are more details on the track when using the quality option. There still seems to be a hiccup at times in either mode that can throw you off your focus. The lighting is still good in Heat 4 especially in night races, but racing at Iowa Speedway during daylight was a pretty sight. Dirt racing is an absolute joy and a great change of pace. The game includes nine dirt tracks that include four real tracks Eldora, Charlotte, Las Vegas, Texastwo tracks that have been changed to dirt Bristol, Richmond and three fantasy tracks. Career Mode allows you to either be a driver or owner and start at any series you would like.

If you want the full experience, being an owner is the way to go. Money that is won in races goes towards upgrading equipment and eventually you can buy more cars.

In qualifying, I am unable to get better than mid to high teens. Race starts, and for the first laps,I simply hold my position. As tire wear sets in, the AI cars slow down. Hit the pits, start stage 2 up front.

During lapsI hold position, and then from that point through the end of the stage slowly move up the field. Typically finish the race in 1st with about a half lap lead over second. Most of the field is lapped, many multiple times. Is it necessary to grind through hours of setup to get a fast car?

To achieve the best speed you need to turn off all assists, except for automatic transmission Don't worry though because driving without assists is quite easy in this game.

Makes sense - last night I spent about 90 minutes working on my car setup for a particular track. Got the wheel camber correct so that the front tires were actually heating evenly.

Played around with different gear ratios, car height, etc.
