Back to home page Return to top.The Holden Commodore VZ is a full size car that was produced by the Australian manufacturer Holden from to as a sedan, and to as a wagon and Ute sold alongside the new VE series.
Released in Augustthe VZ series was a minor facelift of the previous VY series that featured a new V6 engine in different tune guises.
Holden Commodore (VZ)
Other changes to the V6 was the loss of the supercharger that was included in the S models from the VT to VY, this was also dropped with the 3. A new 5LE 5-speed automatic transmission was introduced on the sports and luxury V6 variants. The advanced 3. Selected models bring advanced active safety features that electronically assist the driver to maintain vehicle control in emergency situations.
The VZ Commodore was available in several model variations, most of which carried over from the VY range, with the exception of the newly introduced SV6, a specification level that replaced the S range. Berlina and Calais models were not badged or marketed as Commodores. The VZ is notable for being the only Commodore series of recent times to not officially introduce a Series II update to the range, however, a number of mechanical changes were made in Januarydesignated MY Holden introduced the new L76 6.
The V8 has been slightly detuned, and both Displacement on Demand and variable valve timing have been removed.
Sales of the VZ series failed to match those of the preceding VY in light of rising small car sales, higher fuel prices and growing interest in the whole new replacement, the VE series. The VZ Commodore sedans were superseded by the VE series in Julywhilst the wagon and utility ranges lived on for almost another year. VZ Ute production ended in Augustwhilst the last wagon rolled off Holden's Elizabeth plant line on 6 September The Executive was the baseline model.
The VZ series was the last one to include this nameplate, which was first introduced in This specification was later upgraded as a running change to match the equipment levels and appearance of the SV6, which remained a step down from the SS. The SS was the flagship sports variant of the VZ range.
The Berlina was the semi-luxury model of the VZ range, it sat above the Acclaim and below the Calais. The Calais was the top of the line, luxury model in the VZ range. It sat above the Berlina and combined luxury with performance. A true VZ series facelift was introduced in February and with it, the introduction of a V6 engine as the principal power unit. Production of the V8-powered Adventra ceased in Decemberdue only to the fact that Holden ceased manufacturing the Generation III power unit and did not see a strong enough business case to invest in the new 6.
Sales of the Adventra range never achieved Holden's expectations, especially in comparison to the rival Ford Territoryand it was ultimately phased out of production in to make way for the newly introduced Captivaimported from GM Daewoo in South Korea.
It was based on the Commodore Executive with various added specification upgrades to cater for its specific role. Most 9C1s were delivered in white, though unmarked vehicles were offered in other colours.
The Commodore Lumina was launched in September April saw the launch of the Commodore Equipe, a Holden tradition for many recent models of the Commodore. In Marchthis model was reintroduced as a run-out model, based on the Executive wagon and base model Ute.Can you tell me why the check powertrain warning is coming on the dashboard of my vz holden commodore sv6. The powertrain message is coming of for the wheels are not turning the same.
Check the wheel speed sensors and see if there is any broken axles or stuck brakes that could cause a wheel to be at a slower rate than the others.
Repair any wheels that are turning at a slower rate. Check for any codes that could be stored in the computer ECM to give you a starting place for diagnosing your vehicle. If you need further assistance with your warning messagethen seek out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you.

A worn brake pad can cause the ESP light to come on as the wheelThe external differences over other models in the new line up are subtle. The most prominent feature is the rear spoiler, the front grille is lower and deeper and fog lamps are fitted. Specially designed alloy wheels are unique to the SV6 and overall the styling of the SV6 is the most conservative in appearance of all the sports models in Holden's line-up.
The new SV6 has the new kW Alloytec engine as standard and this engine is also matched to a new six-speed manual transmission. A new five-speed automatic is available.
Sports suspension, driver and passenger airbags, traction control, ABS brakes with Electronic Brake Force distribution and Brake Assist, power windows and external mirrors are all part of the SV6 package.
The SV6 doesn't break any new ground in terms of increased space as the new model retains the previous model's body dimensions. It is a well-proven design that offers plenty of head and legroom for both front and rear seat occupants.
Differing trim combinations are the major point of difference from the other models in the range. Boot space is generous and the rear seat has a fold down ski hatch for longer loads. A split-fold rear seat would be a welcome addition. The centre console can store plenty of CDs, likewise the glove box is a reasonable size and the interior light incorporates a flip down sunglasses holder. The back of both front seats have generous map pockets, for items such as large street directories.
Driver comfort has always been a strong point in the Commodore range. The seat bolstering especially to the seat base is very supportive in the SV6 and firm enough to hold the driver snugly when cornering. Rear seat comfort is also good with the seat base giving plenty of thigh support for longer journeys. Internally the SV6 would be familiar to anybody that has driven Commodores.
The switchgear positioning remains the same.
The centre dash facia has three large easy to operate rotary dials for the air conditioning, other switchgear is well placed. Fog lamps are operated by pulling out the head light switch. Gear lever and clutch pedals are well positioned. The sports dash has speedo, tacho, fuel and water temp gauges that are easy to read; again fairly conservative in looks for a sports model.
There are also steering wheel mounted audio controls. Driver and passenger air bags are standard. A driver's seat belt reminder and auto headlights are fitted. Security consists of an alarm and engine immobiliser with rolling codes. The SV6 scores 61 out of for security which is above average for its class. The kW Alloytec engine and lower kW output version will underpin the Commodore range for many years.
Both kilowatt outputs are based on the same engine. The Alloytec kW engine gains its additional power by utilising variable valve timing on both inlet and exhaust camshafts, [the kW version has variable cam timing on the inlet camshaft only], and using a variable flow intake manifold.
The kW engine has all the hallmarks to do the job. It's a much more refined unit than the previous Ecotec engine fitted in Commodores up to the VY series. The new engine revs sweetly all the way to its maximum redline of 6, rpm. The older Ecotec engine maximum rpm was 5, rpm and was a pretty coarse unit past 4, rpm up to its maximum, so to see the tacho sail past the old engines redline up to 6, rpm will please the enthusiasts.
The new six speed transmission is easy to operate, although doesn't have the finesse of some of the European six speeders going around. Driving around town you won't need to use fifth and sixth gears, it's out on the freeway where the last two gears come into play. Sports suspension firms up the ride qualities over the base models. Although, it's never to the point that the ride becomes too harsh and passengers are generally pretty well insulated from most of the irregularities and pot holes on our roads. The Holden Commodore is a medium to large sedan sold by Holden since It was manufactured from to in Australia and from to in New Zealand, with production of the locally manufactured versions in Australia ending on 20 October For the original model, Holden replaced the long-serving Kingswood and Premier large executive cars developed in Australia, with another rear wheel drive RWD platform that was, however, based on a smaller European design by Opelre-engineered for Australian conditions.
Subsequent series became larger, culminating with the fourth generation Commodore, fully developed in Australia and based on the GM Zeta platform.
Initially introduced as a single sedan body style, the range expanded in to include a station wagon. FromHolden began branding the flagship model as Holden Calaiswith the Commodore Berlina introduced in gaining independent Holden Berlina nomenclature in Holden Special Vehicles HSV in began official modification of high performance variants of the Commodore and its derivatives, under its own nameplate.
Rivalry came predominantly from the Ford Falcon —also locally built. Prior to the second generation Commodore ofthe Holden was positioned a full class below the full-size Falcon. To varying degrees, competition also came from mid-size offerings from Toyota Australia as well as Chrysler Australiawhich morphed into Mitsubishi Motors Australia.
Moreover, between andAustralian federal government policy saw the launch of the Toyota Lexcenwhich was a rebadged version of the second generation Commodore.
VE SV6 .vs. VZ SV6??
With the introduction of the third generation inHolden implemented its largest export programs involving Commodore and its derivatives. High-performance export versions followed in North America, sold as Pontiac and later Chevrolet. This marks the end of the Commodore nameplates' 41 years. Introduced in October the VB Commodore development covered a period with the effects of the oil crisis still being felt.
During the VB's development, Holden realised that when driven at speed over harsh Australian roads, the Rekord would effectively break in half at the firewall.
The Rekord's MacPherson strut front suspension was accordingly modified, and the recirculating ball steering was replaced with a rack and pinion type.
As the wagon-specific sheet metal had to be imported from Germany, the wagon, introduced in Julysuffered from inevitable component differences from the sedan. This coupled with mechanical dilemmas such as water pump failure and steering rack rattle ensured warranty claims were high in the first year.
Now painted blue and thus known as the Blue straight-sixes and Holden V8sthese replaced the Red units fitted to the VB and earlier cars. These changes brought improved efficiency, increased outputs and aided driveability. Holden's emphasis on fuel economy extended beyond powertrains, with a fuel consumption vacuum gauge replacing the tachometer throughout the range, although this could be optioned back with the sports instrumentation package.Food photography is often shot with a window behind the setup and the camera shooting into the window for a more dramatic setup.
Another variation is setting up in a garage with the door open, it will have the same qualities of light as a window, just without the glass. You do not want direct sunlight hitting your set. Direct sunlight is harsh and looks bad on most people and products.
There are a lot of ways to do this, but the ultimate goal is to have your mat board sweep from being flat on your table to being vertical. You may need to roll up the board to help it reach that shape. In my set-up, we placed the table against the wall and taped the sweep to the wall and the table. Some bricks or a wooden block would work well.
Place your product in the center on the flat part of the sweep and leave enough room to sneak your white reflector card in later. Set it to raw if you have it. This file is the largest file the camera can shoot, and utilizes the full bitdepth of the camera. In my canon there are 2 settings to look out for:Set your ISO to 100: The ISO controls the sensitivity of the sensor.
The higher the ISO the more noise there is. Typically, the lowest ISO you can set your camera to is ISO 100, so set it there if you can. Option A: Set your camera to Manual (M)This is the best setting for this type of work because nothing will be moving or changing as you take the pictures. Preview the image on the back of the camera through liveview. Everything is probably pretty dark, which is ok. Now, switch to your shutter speed and rotate the dial to make it bright enough that the image is properly exposed.
Your shutter number should be going down. These are fractions of a second that your shutter will be open for and as the number lowers it will let more light in. Adjust this number until the preview of the image is correct. This should automatically adjust the shutter to be what the camera thinks it should be. This may be wrong and you may need to use the exposure compensation dial to add light.
If all you have is the running man images to choose from, try picking something like sunset. With the iPhone, just tap the area you want exposed properly.
Use the Histogram on the back of the camera. The far right hand side is white, and left is black. In the example image there is a little gap on the right hand side which means that there is no pure white.
Adjust the exposure till the part of the curve representing the white background is touching the right edge without going over.
